DRV8873: Alternate part suggestion

Hi,

Currently, we are using Automotive H- Bridge DRV8873HPWPRQ1 Motor driver IC in our current design at peak drive current of 8A. Here we need your support for the alternate part suggestion which should carry 20A.

Kindly let me know the best fit part which is currently available.

Hi Dinesh,

The DRV8244-Q1 is a good alternative. It is able to drive up to 21-A peak current with sufficient heat sinking.

If you require more current, the DRV8245-Q1 can drive up to 32-A.

What type of brushless DC motor are you using? 3-phase or single phase? Id 3-phase, it won't be possible since this device can only has two half-bridges. you'll need three half-bridges to drive a 3-phase BLDC motor.

Understood. I'm not extremely familiar with the driving requirements for BLDC motors. I only support brushed and stepper motor drivers.

I will re-assign this post to the BLDC to comment on whether the DRV8244-Q1 can drive a single phase BLDC motor.

Hi Dineshkumar,

Our BLDC motor drivers support independent half bridge modes and independent MOSFET modes for solenoid loads. We do not have any single-phase drivers at the moment, these will be targeted in next couple of years.

We recommend a gate driver such as the DRV8343-Q1 to support 20A current, as our integrated FET BLDC drivers support only up to 13-A max. What requirements are you looking for for a single phase driver?
