DRV8353RS-EVM: Not connecting

Part Number: DRV8353RS-EVM

The DRV8353RS software does not recognize that the evaluation board is plugged in.

The board is powered on, and plugged into the computer. Power supply is 48V showing 0.039 A of current.

device shows up in device manager and says it is working properly.

What's the best way to proceed?

Hi Nathan,

This is a weird issue that we've worked around before but we're trying to document it correctly.

Can you try this new GUI: https://dev.ti.com/gallery/view/BLDC/DRV8353Rx/ver/1.0.0/

And like before, can you check the COM ports to see which COM it appears on. If the GUI says "Hardware not Connected", can you try plugging into different USB ports on your laptop to see if any connect? The new GUI I believe is looking for a certain COM port for it to connect.

Hi Nathan,

In addition to what Aaron mentioned, when using the GUI that he linked to, make sure to adjust the IDRIVE settings in the SPI register settings to the lowest IDRIVE setting before operating the motor to avoid damaging the MOSFETs on the EVM due to too high of an IDRIVE. The IDRIVE register values default to 1A/2A source/sink current, which is too high for the MOSFETs that are used on the EVM. I recommend using an IDRIVE setting of 50mA/100mA source/sink current.

Regarding your question about using the hall sensors with the GUI, the GUI only supports sensorless control, so unfortunately there isn't a way to test out the hall sensors with this GUI.
