DRV8714-Q1: DRV8714 debugging issue

Part Number: DRV8714-Q1

Hi team,

Here's an issue may need your help:

The customer would like to implement the following feature:

When the motor is spinning normally, the SH short supply and ground can report a VDS fault to determine which SH is shorted and immediately stop the MOS drive output.

When IC_CTRL1 Register is configured to 1b 1b 10b 011b 1b, DRV_CTRL1 Register is configured to 00b 1b 0b 00b 0b, OLSC_CTRL1 is configured to 0b 0b 0b 0b 0b 0b 0b 0b , GH1 and GL2 drive the MOS output motor for PWM can spin normally, but GL1 and GH2 are reported as VDS faults for MOS. GL1 and GL2 are reported as VDS fault for MOS when the motor is not spinning. When the motor output is shorted, 0.3 V of the VDS voltage setting is reached, the MOS for GH1 and GL2 also reports a fault, but the GH1 and GL2 are PWMs continuously output. How to resolve this issue?

Could you help check this case? Thanks.

Best Regards,

Cherry

  • Hi Cherry,

Thank you for sharing customer's question.

    >>MOS output motor for PWM can spin normally, but GL1 and GH2 are reported as VDS faults for MOS.

This information is strange. Thier DRC_CTRL1 "VDS_MODE" = 00b, so VDS_MODE is Latched fault. DRV should disable output after detecting VDS_fault. Shorted case is also same. If VDS fault is detected, output should be disabled.

But if customer set VDS_MODE=10b Warning only, above situation could happen.

If VDS threshold is too sensitive on their application, I suggest to change threshold and deglitch time.
