Hi,

Customer is designing a drive stepper motor and have following question regarding this. Please see details below.

"I am design a circuit to drive stepper motor using DRV8425PRGER, there is no application circuit for stepper motor. I do find DRV8425RGER datasheet for stepper motor with different pin definition. My questions are:

Can I use DRV8425PRGER to drive stepper motor? If yes, how the pin should be redefined (for example, ENABLE, DIR, microstep definition)

On page 32, there is a example of stepper motor driver circuit. Yet I need more detailed information how to set the microstep, which pin is used to control step, direction and etc. Most of datasheet is about drive BDC motor. Any setting to select BDC or stepper motor since the pin definition are different."

Hi Maynard,

In order to set the desired micro-stepping, the VREFx signal needs to be adjusted for every step. If you want a driver with STEP/DIR interface and configurable micro-step, I recommend using the DRV8425.

Regarding the DRV8425, according to customer, it looks much more complicated comparing STEP/DIR interface. Any sample code to share for this chip?

We don't have a sample code but the STEP/DIR interface requires on pin DIR to set direction and STEP to move forward to the next indexer step. The micro-stepping is set by M0 and M1 pins. I hope this is clearer.
