DRV8718-Q1: PWM Mapping & OOL/OSC Half-bridge detection

Part Number: DRV8718-Q1

Hello E2E team,

I have two questions below regarding the DRV8718-Q1:

QUESTION 1:

For the PWM Mapping, we are driving three motors from 4 channels. However, the configuration we have utilizes CH3 as the common point, with CH1, CH2, and CH4 as the motor drives. I have pasted our current configuration below.

The two examples from the datasheet below had different configurations, but CH3 looked like it could be used as the common point. Would it be possible to use our configuration as is, or is it required to switch the common point to CH1 for this, using CH2,3,4 as the motor drives?

QUESTION 2:

Does OOL/OSC detection work on half-bridge independently? e.g. If we had 8 separate motors, one for each half-bridge. I assume so, but I wanted to confirm with your team.

Regards,

Seid

  • Seid,

Question 1, it is OK to use any of the 1/2 bridges as the "common".  Example in datasheet is just one configuration that is possible.  Your configuration is OK.

Question 2, yes, each 1/2 bridge has dedicated pull-up and pull-down current sources as shown in following section of datasheet:

8.3.8.12 Offline Short Circuit and Open Load Detection (OOL and OSC)

The current sources are controlled by the bits as described in Table 8-62 and 8-63 in the datasheet.

    Regards,

    Ryan
