Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8825
Hi.
I have a DRV8711EVM which appears to not be working. My mechanical counterpart worked with it for about a day and was unable to get the board to move the motor at all. I looked at it, confirmed his setup, and also tried to connect it myself using the downloadable software. We were able to control the board signals in that we could set/reset nSLEEP and RESET and verified response via the on-board test points, but regardless of the state we were unable to get any activity from the provided motor.
After a few hours of effort, I was able to get motor to operate once, but it pulled a silly amount of current (it was dragging down my supply and pulling about 6A before I shut things down) in idle mode (meaning that nSleep was set). To be clear, we were not seeing any supply drops prior to this one incident; the motor just didn't do anything and we were really not pulling any current to speak of.
There was nothing different that we knowingly did the one time it did operate. I was seeing about 600-700mA with no load operation, but once we shut things down and restarted, the motor/driver never worked again. It appears to be a drive issue, possibly related to the switching of the motor supply voltage. An inspection of the board revealed what looked like a short (or near short) between pins 3 and 4, and the driver appears to have fully failed at this point.
We are very confident it's a board issue since I was able to run the stepper without issue using an Arduino and a DRV8825. We noted that the DRV8711EVM board is no longer in stock, which is why I reached out through the chat facility to see about our options. They asked me to post here.
Basically it appears we have a dead board and we're trying to figure out what options are available to us since both the board and component appear to be unavailable, so we couldn't repair the board even if we thought that was the right answer.
