I have used this device to power a 24V BLDC motor. I have set output current limits appropriately so the chip will not be overloaded.
This works ok with 10-12V, but at low speeds torque of the motor is very low. Increasing the voltage to 18 V burnt two of my chips and I have no idea why this happened as max VIN is indicated as 20V.
My questions:
1. What could be the reason for chip damage when source voltage is increased to 18V?
2. Is it possible/recommended to use DRV10970 to drive external FET's rather than the motor directly?
