MCT8316A: Settings for operating in a closed loop

Hi,

What are the roles of "OL_DUTY" and "OL_ILIMIT" in the "MOTOR_STARTUP2" register?

Also, do I need to set the CONST_SPEED register to CLOSED_LOOP_MODE when operating in a closed loop? Please let me know if there are any other register settings required to operate in a closed loop.

Thanks,

Astro

  • Hi Astro,

Thanks for posting your question in MD forum. OL_DUTY sets the input speed duty cycle limit in open loop operation. OL_ILIMIT sets the current limit in open loop operation. For example, if the application requires very high starting torque or very fast acceleration, we recommend to set these two parameters to higher values.

You set the CLOSED_LOOP_MODE to CONST_SPEED only if you wish to enable the speed loop. In this mode, device regulates the motor output speed. For example, if you set the MAX_SPEED to 1000 Hz and PWM duty cycle to 100%, motor will spin at 1000 Hz even if the load on the motor changes.
