Hey!
I want to run a 36V BLDC motor with peak current at 11A. Do you have any evaluation board that contains both the microcontroller as well as the half bridge? I want to implement FOC.

Hi Cleatus,
Best device to use would be DRV8332, integrated FETs up to 13A peak current and 70-V abs max. Unfortunately we do not have an EVM for this device.
We have the DRV8312-C2-KIT, which you could replace the DRV8312 with DRV8332 and evaluate the part on that board. This does not include FOC implementation and will need to be coded manually.
If you with to evaluate 36V/11A with FOC, best solution to recommend is the LAUNCHXL-F280049C + BOOSTXL-DRV8320RS, which uses external MOSFETs rather than integrated half bridges.
Thanks,
Aaron
LAUNCHXL-F280049C is not in stock right now. Is there an alternative?
Also, how is the FOC coding done in this controller? Can you link any related documents to be referred for programming?
Also do I need to buy any debugger along with it? I have MSP-FET FLASH EMULATION TOOL available with me.
Hi Cleatus,
The most up-to-date solution of sensorless FOC that TI provides is called MotorControl SDK: https://www.ti.com/tool/C2000WARE-MOTORCONTROL-SDK
You can also use LAUNCHXL-F28069M with BOOSTXL-DRV8301, BOOSTXL-DRV8305, or BOOSTXL-DRV8323RS. The debugger is on the Launchpad itself (I think XDS100 or XDS110). You could also evaluate DRV8353RS-EVM, which uses a Launchpad that comes with the kit. All of these solutions utilize MotorWARE, which is an older version of sensorless Field-oriented control: https://www.ti.com/tool/MOTORWARE
There is documentation for each of these solutions on their tool pages. All these solutions should be suitable for 36-V.
Thanks,
Aaron
Hi Cleatus,
No you have to use LAUNCHXL-F28069M with BOOSTXL-DRV8323RS. This is because the ADC signals (phase voltage & current) are different in BOOSTXL-DRV8320RS compared to BOOSTXL-DRV8323RS.
BOOSTXL-DRV8320RS is only compatible with LAUNCHXL-F280049C.
You can also try the LAUNCHXL-F280025C as a newer solution with BOOSTXL-DRV8323RS.
Thanks,
Aaron
Hi Cleatus,
Our team is currently out of office today for July 4th holiday in the US - but we will review your question and aim to provide a response by end of the week. Thanks!
Best Regards,
Andrew
Hi Cleatus,
Yes, LAUNCHXL-F280025C supports InstaSPIN-FOC for BLDC motors using MotorControl SDK. Please see the user guide: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/spruj26
Thanks,
Aaron
