DRV8432 - Mode Select Pin

Hi,

I'm currently interrested in DRV8432 motor driver.

I saw you sell an Evaluation board and I have a question about mode select pin.

In the datasheet, it's specified at page 18:

"Mode select pins (M1, M2, and M3) should be connected to either VREG (for logic high) or AGND for logic low. It
is not recommended to connect mode pins to board ground if 1-Ω resistor is used between AGND and GND."

But on the DRV8432EVM Motor Drive Evaluation Board, mode select pin are connected directly to GND.

What about the recommendation?

  • Hello,

The internal logic is referenced to AGND on the MODE pins.  With a recommended 1ohm resistor between AGND and GND, there will be a small potential difference between AGND and GND.  It is our recommendation to connect the MODE pins to AGND in this case.

Therefore, the EVM does not follow our recommendation.  However, you would have to have a substantial amount of noise to bounce the MODE pins over 0.8V and cause a possible unintentional logic change.  The pins are TTL compatible.

We have not seen any problems with the EVM, but I recommend you follow the datasheet advice on your board.

    Regards,

    Ryan
