MCF8316A: IIC communication issue

Part Number: MCF8316A

Hi team,

Here's an issue from the customer may need your help:

The IIC has never acknowledged an ACK, why is that?

Could you help check this case? Thanks.

Best Regards,

Cherry

  • Hi Cherry,

Our team will aim to provide an updated response mid/end of next week

However, in the meantime, can the customer provide some more details such as waveform captures to evaluate?

We would firstly want to understand whether the customer has confirmed proper system initialization on matters such as:

    • does the device have proper voltage on various regulators, such as main supply input pin?
    • is the device awake, or is it in low-power sleep mode where some of the device functions (such as I2C) might be disabled?
    • does the I2C implementation meet the circuit requirements and timing requirements mentioned in the datasheet?

    Best Regards,
    Andrew

  • Hi Cherry,

A schematic would be helpful, but otherwise, could you please ask the customer to check:

    1. Measure and verify the voltage regulator outputs:
      1. Buck regulator (5V by default)
      2. AVDD (3.3V)
      3. DVDD (1.5V)
    2. Make sure correct pull-up resistors are present on I2C and FG pins:

(Even though FG is not used, the pull-up resistor on FG is required for I2C to be functional)

    Regards,
    Eric Chen
