DRV8312: Programming-Resistor limits

Part Number: DRV8312

Hi,

in the Datasheet the Table 7-2 shows Resistors for current limits down to 7.4A.

The maximum Rating of the DRV8312:

"DRV8312 (Power Pad Down): up to 3.5-A Continuous Phase Current (6.5-A Peak)"

The Resistor maximum Rating is 200kΩ

Are the current Ratings for the DRV8312 experimental only? Or do i miss an Equation or Table?

Thanks in advance

Malte

  • Hi Malte,

I will provide a response on this before end of week

  • Hi Malte,

Apologies for the late response - please see my comments below:

Previously the older device datasheet revisions listed more options for configuring the OCP (up to 200kOhm).

    • As the OCP feature in this device is intended for preventing catastrophic system-level damage instead of precise current control, we updated the OC threshold table to reflect only the upper settings for tripping OCP
    • the current thresholds in this table are just typical values and can vary from device-to-device as mentioned in the datasheet. Other factors such as temperature and tolerances of the resistor component may also affect the OCP performance.
    • therefore, we don't suggest the lower trip thresholds anymore - but it is still feasible to select a lower value if you are willing to validate trip threshold in your system & account for wide variation

Previous datasheet revision's OC typical values:
