DRV8873: DRV8873

Part Number: DRV8873

Hello

I would like to connect two independent half bridges in parallel to reduce Rdson

it is mentioned in DS "This mismatch can be mitigated by adding an inductor in-line with the outputs."

Appreciate getting more details on to try this

Thanks in advance

Vladimir

  • Vladimir,

The timing between switching the parallel connected half-bridges is not guaranteed to be the same.  So, one bridge might still have the low-side enabled while the other has high-side enabled.  This will cause a small "shoot-thru" event.  Adding an inductor between the channels will slow the rise of current and ensure that OCP protection does not occur.  10uH or so would be recommended.

However, we have lower Rdson parts in the portfolio like DRV8243, DRV8244 and DRV8245.  You might consider those as an alternative.

    Regards,
