DRV2624: Minimum Load Impedance at 2.5Vrms

Part Number: DRV2624

TI states that the minimum load impedance is 8 ohms, so driving at a max voltage of 5.5V and a load impedance of less than 8 ohms would strain the output capability of the DRV. I wish to use the VLV101040A (wide-band LRA) in our design. The VLV101040A is rated at 2.5Vrms and has a resistance of between 6 and 7.5 ohms. Would driving the VLV101040A at 2.5Vrms strain the output capability of the DRV?

  • Hi Dean,

Our TI haptics expert has just returned from international travel, please allow at least 48 hours for a response.

    Thank you for your patience.

  • Hi Dean,

the minimum comfortable impedance that we recommend is 8 ohm.

however, the threshold for overcurrent is 3.6Vdd into 4 ohm or slightly less than 900 mA.  2.5Vrms should be about  600 mA into 6 ohms. this shouldn't trip the over current protection ( which is intended to prevent damage to the device). it should be possible to drive safely with DRV2624

    Regards,
