MCT8316Z-Q1: Supply from AVDD cannot be used to pull driver out of sleep

Part Number: MCT8316Z-Q1

Hello!

I am designing a motor controller using the MCT8316 driver, and would like to power the microprocessor using the motor drivers AVDD or buck regulator.

You show in Figure 9.1, a microprocessor being powered by AVDD, however, I am wondering how this is possible as the AVDD output is disabled in sleep-mode (nSLEEP is internally pulled down, being active HIGH).

"In sleep mode, all FETs are disabled, sense amplifiers are disabled, buck regulator (if present) is disabled, the charge pump is disabled, the AVDD regulator is disabled, and the SPI bus is disabled."

In order for this to work, the microprocessor needs a second source of power, that can be utilized until the motor driver is pulled out of sleep to provide AVDD, otherwise the microprocessor never turns on, and MCT8316 is never is pulled out of sleep.

Is it possible to utilize AVDD when driver is in sleep mode, or do I need to force the motor driver out of sleep with an external pull-up/voltage reference?

Kind regards,

Emil Jacobsen

  • Hi Emil,

Thanks for posting your question to the E2E MD forum -

our team will review your question and aim to provide a response shortly, targeting by middle of next week

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Emil,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to power the MCU using AVDD when the MCT8316ZT is in sleep mode. You should either use an external power supply to power the MCU or operate the MCT8316ZT in standby mode.

    Regards,

    Vishnu.
