Hello guys,
One of my customers is evaluating DRV8825 for their next products.
They have questions about nHOME signal. Could you please give me your reply?
Q1. Is the purpose of nHOME signal to check if there is any difference in the step angle between the controller and DRV8825?
Q2. In other words, is it to confirm that the control from the controller is correctly transmitted to DRV8825?
Q3. Can DRV8255 not detect motor step out using nHOME signal? And do I need a sensor to detect the home position of the motor to detect motor step-out?
Your reply would be much appreciated.
Best regards,
Kazuya.
Hello!
The purpose is to know that the number of steps the controller issued matches what was received from the DRV8825. If there is some noise where the controller issued a step, but was not received by the DRV8825, then monitoring nHOME can be used as a feedback for this. Can also be used as feedback for when the device is reset. or lost power.
An actual mechanical mis-step where the motor did not move is NOT reported on nHOME. nHOME is just feedback of where you are in the STEP state machine. You would need a sensor for this.

Ryan
