MCF8316AEVM: Cannot program MCF driver on my board, using EVM

Part Number: MCF8316AEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MCF8316A

I have been spinning motors using the MCF8316AEVM board.

I designed a PCB with the MCF8316A chip and then hooked SDA and SCL to the EVM via the jumpers on the EVM. When I try to read registers or write to the EEPROM, the GUI crashes. Why is this?

I have disconneced the microcontroller on my schematic from I2C so they only device on the I2C bus is the MCF8316 and pull up resistors

  • Hi Peter,

Your attached schematic image is a bit low res and hard to read. Could you please attach a higher res or PDF version?

    1. When jumper wiring SDA/SCL between the EVM and your PCB, did you also make sure to connect the GND between them?
    2. I see that the FG and nFAULT pins are both pulled up to 3.3V. This is required for the device to power up correctly.
    3. Could you please measure and verify the following regulator outputs on your PCB to make sure that the MCF8316A is properly powered up?
      1. Buck regulator (5V by default)
      2. AVDD (3.3V)
      3. DVDD (1.5V)

    Regards,
    Eric C.
