DRV8425: Output Problems

Part Number: DRV8425

Hi Team,

Can you please help us regarding the issue with DRV8425 in our customer's board? Here is the issue according to our customer.

According to my best knowledge the DRV8425 is implemented in the circuit according to datasheet recommendations.

However when trying to do stepping, Only BOUT1 half-bridge output toggles.

BOUT2 is constantly on GND and Both AOUT1 and AOUT2 are on 12V.

I have two boards built and both of them exhibit the same behavior.

Replacing the IC has not happened yet. I will also try that tomorrow.

We are short of ICs therefore I would like to exclude every other option before replacing them.

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hey Danilo,

I reviewed the schematic just now and everything looks good. 3.3V VCC pull up on nFAULT,  0.75V VREF for 1A setting, appropriate capacitors and output pins tied together.  All good. It looks like 2400+ of DRV8425PWPR are available on TI's website right now FYI if you want to restock.

Does it exhibit the same behavior with no motor attached?

I'm sure you already did, but just to make sure - did you verify your STEP, nSLEEP, and ENABLE input signals are all working properly?

Please post an oscilloscope capture of this happening.  Maybe show the STEP signal and some output signals, and let me know what DECAY mode you're using.

    Regards,

    Jacob

  • Hi Danilo, Jacob,

Meanwhile the issue got solved. Wrong part was populated. DRV8425PPWPR instead of DRV8425PWPR.

Thank you for supporting me on this! It helped me a lot.

    Best regards,
    Gabor
