DRV8889-Q1: DRV8889-Q1, DRV3245-Q1 DRV8243-Q1 support limp home to safety state?

Part Number: DRV8889-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8243-Q1

Hi Experts,

My customer would like to understand, if their system has some failure which causes MCU reset, can our DRV8889-Q1 &DRV3245-Q1& DRV8243-Q1 have some internal latch feature to keep the control signal until motor moves to some safety position. Kind of like limp home/fail safe feature.

May I know if our parts can support this?

Thanks

Scarlett

  • Scarlett,

For DRV8889-Q1, it is a stepper device and device will hold at last STEP position until a new STEP or DIR input is received.  So, this device will essentially hold with loss of input.

The DRV8243-Q1 is a brushed device and when PWM input stops, the motor will come to a stop in a brake or coast state.  The exact position of the stop will depend on the rotational inertia and load at the time of input loss.

DRV3245-Q1 is a BLDC.  I am not sure on this one.  Can you please post to the BLDC forum for this device?

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • Thanks Ryan, clear on this.
