MCF8316A: Standalone operation using I2C for initial configuration

Part Number: MCF8316A

Is it possible to set and save speed settings using I2C for initial setup and have them retained after a power cycle, even with no I2C lines connected?  I've attempted to achieve this functionality but have been unsuccessful.

For example:

1) Set/configure the motor speed and output using I2C communication

2) Set the Speed control mode to registers override

3) Write all settings to the registers

4) Unplug USB connection to the MCF8316AEVM

5) Motor is actively spinning

6) Cycle power to the MCF8316A

7) Motor does not spin and the MCF8316AEVM appears to have been set to default speed settings in the absence of I2C input.
