DRV8311: DRV8311S part Status and use of DRV8311H Instead

Hi,

We are using DRV83053PHPR in our products which require high current to drive the BLDC motor preciously. For our miniature, space constraint products we are exploring DRV with integrated MOSFET and sense resistors.

DRV8311 matches our requirement in terms of physicals dimension, voltage, and current.

My questions are

1) DRV8311S is very similar to DRV83053PHPR as it has PWM input to all 3phases and SPI to configure the DRV's parameters. But this part number is not mentioned along with DRV8311HRRWR & DRV8311PRRWR.

is it yet to be launched ?

2) Can DRV8311H be used to control 3phase BLDC? the application diagram shows DC motor drive with solenoid. This part has 3PWM or 6PWM interface but there is no SPI or other communication interface to configure the internal parameters like DRV 8311P or DRV8311S or DRV83053PHPR. How can DRV8311 be configured?

    Hi Nithish,

    Thank you for posting to the Motor Drivers forum!

    Regarding your second question, instead of having the four SPI pins, the DRV8311H has nSLEEP and three resistor configurable inputs which are GAIN, SLEW and MODE. These pins can be configured by tying the pin logic low, logic high, or pulling up or pulling down with a resistor. 

    • GAIN configures the gain of the current sense amplifier
    • SLEW configures the slew rate of the output voltage to motor
    • MODE pin configures the PWM control mode and OCP level

    The table above shows how some pin configurations relate to certain configurations with the GAIN, SLEW, and MODE. Section 8.3.3.2 Hardware Interface of the datasheet provides further details of the Hardware Interface used in the DRV8311H.

    I am currently checking with the team internally to see about the status of the DRV8311S and will let you know what I find out.
