MCT8316Z: How to set constant speed

Part Number: MCT8316Z
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MCT8316A, MCF8316A

Hi team,

My customer would like a BLDC MD that maintains a constant speed even if the torque changes in the middle of rotation.

(Q-1) I think MCT8316Z realize it.  But I can't find out how to set constant speed. For example, is it possible to set a constant 100 rpm? Could you please tell me it and appropriate section of datasheet or technical manual on how to set constant speed?

(Q-2) Could you please tell me if sensor less  MD such as MCT8316A and MCF8316 can maintains a constant speed even if the torque changes in the middle of rotation? Please let me know if there are any other points to note.

Because the competition product is a type with a built-in Hall sensor, the customer may not like MCT8316Z which requires external hole sensors. I would like to know about sensorless type constant velocity control as a backup for that time.

Thank you for your help.

Taito Takemrua

  • Hello Taito Takemura,

Thanks for your question on the Motor Drives E2E Forum.

I will aim to provide an answer on this by the end of the week!

  • Hello Taito Takemura,

MCT8316Z does not have built-in speed loop so it does not support constant speed. For this device when load increased, speed will eventually decrease.

However, MCT8316A and MCF8316A both support constant speed under varying conditions, see the screenshot from the MCT8316A datasheet below:

MCT8316A and MCF8316A are both sensorless solutions which should benefit the customer's application. Let us know if you have any additional questions about the speed and torque loop feature in MCX8316A which supports constant speed and dynamic load!

    Best,

    Robert
