DRV8436: DRV8436 - two different descriptions for the same part

Part Number: DRV8436
I would normally consider the latest revision as gospel, however, in this case the two revisions cited show completely different operation.
In the July 2022 revision, pins 25, 24, 23, 22 describe 4 inputs 2 for each output with the description that pin 25 AIN1, pin 24 AIN2. with the description that if AIN1 is high and AIN2 is low then there will be  forward current between OUT1 and OUT2.  Similar for pins 23 and 22 (BIN1 and BIN2).  In this Pin 18 is VrefA  max 3 volts and I am using a 5 volts for control.
In the May 2022 the same pins have the designations ENABLE, DIR, STEP, M1.  With the STEP described as "Step input. A rising edge causes the indexer to advance one step; internal pulldown resistor."   In this Pin 18 is M0 and controls the step mode along with M1.
These are two completely different description of the same chip.  How do I differentiate between the two forms of operation.   In actuality they should be two different Numbers.
