DRV8825: Can nRESET and nSLEEP be connected to V3P3OUT, or is an external supply necessary?

Part Number: DRV8825

Is it possible to connect nRESET and nSLEEP directly to the V3P3OUT pin rather than an external 3V3 or 5V source?

Based on the input current and pull-down resistor values for the two inputs, they should pull well under the recommended maximum of 1mA for the V3P3OUT pin. However, I am concerned that connecting the pins in in this way may not be possible due to power up sequencing. The datasheet states that the V3P3OUT regulator is disabled while nSLEEP is driven low. Would connecting nSLEEP to V3P3OUT result in a situation where the DRV8825 enters and never leaves SLEEP mode at powerup?

  • Michael,

Yes to your question on entering nSLEEP and never recovering.  You will need to use an external supply to control nSLEEP.  nRESET can be directly tied to V3P3OUT as this pin does not disable V3P3OUT.
