DRV8962: Alternative for DRV8432

Hi Team,

The part DRV8432 is going obsolete and a customer is looking for an alternative. As I check I found no direct alternative for this part. It looks like most are going to microstep drive built in, the customer directly control the PWM to operate these as servo motors (both 2 and 3 phase), as well as voice coils, so the built in current control for microstepping are not useful for their use case unless there is some way to directly coopt the PWM inputs rather than using the internal current regulation.

Can the DRV8962DDVR be used for this use case? if not, can you recommend another part?

Yes, the DRV8962 is meant to replace the DRV8412 (oad-down version DDW package) and DRV8432 (pad-up version DDV). It is a very flexible device in independent 1/2 bridge control using PWM.

Can you tell me the reason why DRV8432 is obsolete? will the DRV8412 soon be EOL too?

The DRV8412 is unaffected and will continue production for the foreseeable future.

We designed a product using DRV8432 last year. I am not sure DRV8962 is a drop-in replacement for DRV8432 in terms of (DT, Propagation, PWM frequency 500KHz).

Hello,

You are correct, the DRV8962 can't support such a high-frequency and DT. Prop delay also longer. What is your application that requires this?

It's a fast-steering mirror with four very large voice coil motors. Which requires precision and fast closed loop control of the voice coil positions. The rated RMS current is 5A~8.2A and the peak current is around 15A~21A.
