DRV8244-Q1: Regenerative Breaking

Part Number: DRV8244-Q1

I am deciding on if I am going to use the DRV8244 full H-Bridge chip on a new 4 wheel drive rover product.  I wanted to know if it is possible to utilize regenerative breaking to help recharge the battery when the rover is slowing down?  Can you please advise if this is possible with the TI smart H-bridges?

  • David,

During the fast decay state, current will flow back through our internal body diodes and can be stored for regenerative braking.  As long as the voltage doesn't exceed the recommended max of the device, there is no issue with the driver itself.

I don't have any reference design to point you to, but technically it is possible.

    Regards,

    Ryan
