DRV8702-Q1: Selection of motor driver

Part Number: DRV8702-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8706-Q1, DRV8245-Q1

Hello,

I am an FAE for a distributor that handles TI products.
I am researching the product in the specifications below.
I prefer the DRV8702-Q1 and DRV8706-Q1.
However, I cannot judge whether the above device can change the pulse width in 8us increments.
Please let me know your opinion on this.

(Specification)
MOSFET side input voltage: DC12 to DC24V (MAX35V)
Approximately 20A flows through the circuit, so an external MOSFET type is better.
Short circuit prevention function required
PWM: Period 400us. However, the pulse width is changed in 8us increments.

Best regards,

  • Hello!

If this is a new design, please consider the DRV8706-Q1.  An integrated device like the DRV8245-Q1 can handle those peak currents, but running current may cause thermal issues.  Please propose this and try and understand running current.  I suspect 20A is the stall current spec.

The PWM is set externally.  8us PWM is OK as a min pulse width and increments of 8us is also OK.

    Regards,

    Ryan
