Hi team,
Could you please help estimate the expected power losses on the DRV8462?
Could you please provide some data on this?
Besides thermal and switching losses, what other losses should I expect?
BR,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,
Thanks for reaching out to us with this question via this forum. I'd like to point our a few existing resources on this topic that will address this question for the customer. Firstly, section 8.2.4 Thermal Application, page-104 of the DRV8462 datasheet https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/drv8462.pdf. Note, this dissipation is without auto-torque feature enabled, calculated for a specific fixed current. DRV8462 features auto-torque, which will automatically reduce current if the load torque is lower and vice-versa. This will reduce the thermals significantly.
Second resource, please check out this thermal calculator, "[FAQ] How to estimate die temperature of Stepper Driver?" https://e2e.ti.com/support/motor-drivers-group/motor-drivers/f/motor-drivers-forum/1166656/faq-how-to-estimate-die-temperature-of-stepper-driver?tisearch=e2e-quicksearch&keymatch=FAQ%20stepper%20die%20temperature%20estimat.
