DRV8889-Q1: OCP auto retry

Part Number: DRV8889-Q1

Hi team,

My customer is evaluating the fault diagnostic feature of DRV8889-Q1 in their project. They found when creating an OCP fault and try to monitor the OCP bit in fault status register, the bit is repeating the pattern of high for 30ms- >low for 50ms-> high for 30ms-> low for 50ms even when the fault isn't removed. Could you please kindly help suggest the possible reason or debugging direction?

Thank you

Scarlett

  • Scarlett,

Which OCP_MODE is the customer in?  There is a bit to set "retry mode" and "latched" mode.

If retry mode, the device will keep trying to restart even with a short.

The other possibility is the device is being RESET (VM is collapsing below under-voltage condition) on a short as the supply is collapsing.  They can monitor the supply voltage to see if this is occurring.

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • Scarlett,

    Any update on this?

    Regards,
