Need help using DRV8312 to a 12V motor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8312

HI ,

i am using the DRV8312 to drive a motor of maxon EC20 9V, 5W. however the motor EC20 supply is only 12V.

However  in the datsheet ,it states that the PVDD need to be about 50V.

hence can this driver be used to perform the normal operation and deliver up to 3.5A?

pse advise

Thank you

Regards

jeffrey

  • Hello Jeffrey,

If i understand your question correctly,

I think that this driver is capable of working with different kind of motors up to 50V, so 9V or 12V shouldn't be a problem.

You have the connection guide in DRV8312-C2-KIT Hardware reference guide:

    "

    DC Bus Connection
o J9 power entry jack - Connect the supplied +24V power supply here.
o “PVDD/GND” Terminals – Connect an external lab supply here making sure to
    observe correct polarity.
    • Aux-12V Control Power Entry – Connectors to optionally provide and external 12V
supply for logic and gate drive power. The 12V supply can also be regulated on board
from the DC bus depending on the setting of JP1. Set to position “VR1” to use on board
regulator. Set to position “+12V” to use external regulator.

    "

    I hope this is helps.

    have a nice day

  • Jeffrey,

Just to reiterate Yulya post, VDD must be 12V, but PVDD can be anything between 0 and 52 V and still pull up to 3.5A. So if you want to run a 9V motor it will pull as much current as needed to move the motor, as long as its not over 3.5A.
