MCT8329A: Structural drawing of user-side input terminals for SPEED and DIR terminals

Hi,

Do you have a structural diagram of the user-side input terminals such as the SPEED and DIR terminals of the MCT8329A?

7.3.9 of the data sheet of DRV8424 describes the above contents, but I am asking because there is no such description for MCT8329A.

Thanks,

Conor

  • Hi Conor,

Thanks for your question on the Motor Drives E2E Forum.

I will aim to provide an answer on this by the end of the week!

    Robert

  • Hi Conor,

As you mentioned, these diagrams are not available in the MCT8329A datasheet. We only have block diagrams of the internal structure for the gate driver, AVDD, and VREG. Do you have any questions about implementation or performance that I can help with? Is there any concern?

    Robert

  • Hi Robert

When I checked the data sheet of DRV8424, the input pins are various, such as simple logic input, tri-level input, and quad-level input.

Therefore, I would like to understand the structure of the MCT8329A and use it as a reference to determine the values of the external pull-up/pull-down resistors. I would like to know the internal resistance of the SPEED pin, especially since it also serves as three types of input: PWM, Freq, and Analog.

    Thanks,

    Conor

  • Hi Conor,

Let me see if that is something we can share and I will work on getting that to you if possible. Until then, please look at the MCT8329EVM implementation and external pull up values that you can use as a baseline for selecting the right components. You can find the altium Schematic and Layout files on the MCT8329EVM tool page: https://www.ti.com/tool/MCT8329EVM

  • Hi, Robert

Could you please let me know as soon as you find out? We would appreciate it if you could reply as soon as possible due to the development schedule.

    Thanks,

    Conor

  • Hi Conor,

SPEED pin has internal pulldown resistance of 1Mohm as shown in datasheet spec:

DIR pin can benefit from external pull down for noise immunity as seen in the functional block diagram and external components table:

See external components table in the datasheet:

Let me know if anything else is needed.

    Best,

    Robert

  • Hi Conor,

If there are no more questions, could you please help mark this thread as resolved?

I will close the thread for now, but feel free to open it again if you have an additional question around this topic.

    Best,

    Robert
