DRV8889-Q1EVM: Software supporting more than one drive

Part Number: DRV8889-Q1EVM

Hello first time having an application that uses the DRV88890-Q1EVM. The application uses 4 actuators that will be moved independently. My question is: Does the software that runs the DRV8889 support up to 4 drives? Or would I need four instances of the software running?

  • Hi Rhyan,

Thanks for the post and thank you for your interest in the DRV8889-Q1EVM. The desktop GUI application runs only one instance in a computer. This will support only one DRV88890-Q1EVM. A second DRV88890-Q1EVM can be controlled using the same computer by using a browser (Chrome) based GUI using the TI cloud link, https://dev.ti.com/gallery/view/MotorDriversBSM/DRV8889-Q1/ver/1.1.7/ . To access the cloud version you must use your myTI account to sign in first to the TI GUI Composer gallery, https://dev.ti.com/gallery/. So at best only two EVMs can be operated simultaneously using one computer.

Each EVM will have  an assigned serial port which can be verified using the Windows Device Manager - see below.

Be sure to select the appropriate COMx port for each of the GUI, one Desktop app and one browser based by using the "Options > Serial Port" menu of the respective GUI - see below.

Multiple browser GUI apps can be opened using the same hyperlink but cannot be active simultaneously. After activating an EVM the active cloud based GUI can be disconnected by clicking on the connection icon shown in the below snippet. To reactivate clicking on the same icon will establish the connection. Connection will be successful only if rest of the browser based GUI's are disconnected.

I hope this addresses your requirements.

    Regards, Murugavel
