DRV8311: SPI and tSPI

Dear Support,

i am using DRV8331P and i want to drive just one motor. I would like to implement the communication protocol in SPI: how can i del with pin 14 and pin 15 (AD1 adn AD0 respectevly)? Can i just leave them floating ?

Hi Giorgio,

Thank you for posting to the Motor Drivers forum!

As you are using the tSPI variant, in order to have a successful read/write the secondary device ID needs to match the secondary device address as shown in section 8.5.1.1 SPI and tSPI Format below:

To configure these pins (AD0 and AD1), you can either tie them both to GND or tie them both to AVDD (another option could include some combination of GND and AVDD).

thank you for the answer: i will tie AD0 and AD1 to GND.

I am sorry but i still don't get something about DRV8311P: this variant can only communicate by tSPI? If it doesn't, how can you choose netween SPI and tSPI protocol?

Hi Giorgio,

The DRV8311P variant communicates via tSPI which is nearly identical to SPI with exception to the SDI input data word which is 32 bits for tSPI vs 24 bits for traditional SPI as described in section 8.5.1.1 SPI and tSPI Format.
