DRV8231: Can we safely use the DRV8231DSGR with 34VDC?

Part Number: DRV8231
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8876,

e2e,

I'm considering the DRV8231DSGR for some doorbell chimes.  The chime models are 24VAC_rms which means that we will have 23VAC rms sine wave if we use 33VDC. Could you confirm that we can safely use the DRV8231DSGR with 34VDC?

Thank you,

Adam

  • Hi Adam,

Even though this device can operate up to 35V max, we do not recommend operating above 33V to prevent ripples or voltage spikes on the power supply from causing overvoltage stress on the driver.

I recommend looking at the DRV8876 which is very similar in functionality to the DRV8231 but can operate up to 37V (recommended) and 40V (abs max).

    Regards,
