MCT8316Z: DIR and VSEL_BK pins function in SPI variant

Part Number: MCT8316Z

hi,

there are some conflictions in the datasheet:

in figures 6-1 and 6-2, pin 36 functions as "nSCS" in SPI variant and "DIR" in HW variant.

but in figure 9-2 DIR and nSCS are different pins and used simulatinously

in section 8.3.3.2

"Hardware interface devices convert the four SPI pins into four resistor-configurable inputs which are ADVANCE,
MODE, SLEW and VSEL_BK."

in this sentance VSEL_BK is stated to belong to SPI interface and DIR is ignored.

what are the the 4 SPI pins?

  • Hi Pavel,

Sorry for the confusion in the datasheet. Figure 9-2 contains a mistake and shouldn't have included the DIR pin for the SPI variant.

I think the wording in 8.3.3.2 is a little misleading. The hardware interface simply replaces the SPI interface internally, but their external pins can be mapped to a different pin number. The VSEL_BK pin is on Pin24 of the hardware variant instead of Pin36, where nSCS is on the SPI variant.

The DIR pin is simply an input control pin that is present on the hardware variant but missing on the SPI variant (on which direction is controlled through SPI register).

    Regards,
    Eric C.
