DRV8462EVM: Unable to communicate with board using the EVM GUI

Part Number: DRV8462EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8462

Recently began testing a few of these evaluation boards for future use, specifically using the 8434, 8461, and 8462. The first two were hooked up and tested no problem with their appropriate software, however the 8462EVM has an issue where it will not connect to the GUI. I have two of these 8462EVM's, so a hardware issue would seem unlikely, as they share the same problem. I know it shares the software with the 8461EVM, so I am looking for some help or insight to what I could potentially be doing wrong between the two (nearly identical) boards. Thanks!

  • Hey Owen,

Make sure you are using the latest released GUI link:  https://dev.ti.com/gallery/view/MotorDriversBSM/DRV84xx_DRV82x2_DRV89x2-EVM-GUI/

Then flash new firmware to the device.  Connect your EVM via micro USB cable, then do File, Program Device.  You might have to power up the EVM at the time with VM (12V or 24V etc), and you might have to go to Options, Serial port and select the correct port (but probably not).  Once you successfully program the device it should work!

If it still doesn't work then send me a picture of the top of the EVM, and let me know if the DRV8462 device says "PDRV8462" or "P8462" or just "DRV8462" or "8462".

    Regards,

    Jacob
