TMS320F28379D LaunchPad Gate Driver design

Hi,

I want to design a Gate Driver that I can use with the TMS320F28379D LaunchPad. How should I go about this issue,
how should the circuit elements I need to use in Gate Driver and the mosfet I want to drive should be,
how should the circuit diagram be determined in general terms?
I wanted to rotate the motor using a mosfet with the LaunchPad, but the mosfet and the board failed.
Can you help me
  • Hello Semanur,

Thanks for the inquiry. I am the applications engineer for TI's power MOSFETs. I can help you select the FETs for your application. However, the gate driver is handled by a different applications team within TI. As a starting point, we have developed an excel-based FET selection tool for BLDC motor drive which can be found at the link below. This allows the user to enter their requirements and compare up to 3 different TI FET solutions based on power loss, package and cost. Detailed instructions are provided in the Intro tab. Simply enter your requirements (you can use default values for the speed of the motor you are driving), and click on the big blue button to start FET selection. Next, you will choose the FET configuration (single discrete or dual/power block), the number of FETs in parallel and then click the blue rectangular button (CLICK HERE FET1) to create a list of possible FETs for the application. The FETs will be in a drop down list sorted by power loss. You can repeat this process for up to 3 different TI FET solutions. The spreadsheet uses "." separators for the decimal point (some countries use a "'," separator). You must enable macros for the spreadsheet to work properly. Give it a try and let me know if you have any questions. The second link is a blog on FET selection for motor drive applications.

  • Thank you for the information you provided. You mentioned that the port driver was handled by a different implementation team within TI, which forum group does it belong to? I looked but couldn't find the implementation team for the gate driver.

  • Hi Semanur,

You can look at our portfolio of gate drivers in our TI.com page to see which gate driver would suit your application best. You can select between our low side drivers, high side drivers, and isolated gate drivers. There's several resources on all of our gate drivers families and if there's any specific questions feel free to tag a device you're interested in for further help.
