No, the dead time is critical to prevent the MOSFETs shorting VM to GND (shoot-through).  See 8.3.1.2.2 Cross Conduction (Dead Time).  And application report Delay and Dead Time in Integrated MOSFET Drivers

Agreed, there are no unique requirements for this device with inductive loads, you can use it to drive brushed motors or solenoids.  Here's one useful app note on choosing the bulk capacitance and input inductor for your system:  Input and Output Capacitor Selection.  You can use the evaluation module to test this driver with your specific loads:  DRV8908-Q1EVM
