DRV8353: DRV8353

Part Number: DRV8353

Hello,

We are  using a DRV8353H to design a BLDC motor driver and have a few questions regarding the power supply recommendations

The external supply voltage range is 18-75V and we are using the dual power supply configuration with Vdrain connected to the external power supply and Vm connected to a 12-24V to reduce the internal power dissipation.

2*560 uF , 100V electrolytic capacitor and one 100uf , 35V ( rated for Vm) - would this meet the requirements for local bulk capacitance ? We are targeting output current of 15 A and instantaneous peak of 30A.

thanks

Najma

  • Hey Najma,

I suggest looking into the EVM for recommendation on values for the capacitor. Those could be used as a rough guideline. Specific values will be dependent on your voltage ripple and specific application so it is always good to have the footprint for the cap for future testing. Also please check the DS section on external components and bulk cap sizing for more info. Will you be placing fast action 1uf caps in the design?

    Best,
    Akshay

  • Hi Akshay,

    I have a 0.1uf and 10uf VM-rated ceramic caps (local) between VM & GND.

    thanks

    Najma

  • Hey Najma,

Thanks for the confirmation. The main takeaway is to ensure that the DS recommendation for the driver specific caps be followed and to place them close to the driver in the layout.

For the larger bulk caps, you can use the EVM as a guide but specific values will depend based on voltage ripple of the supply, current draw, board design etc.

    Best,
    Akshay
