Hi,

I am working on an LRA "DMEGC DM-LM0710-8" using the board DRV2605LEVM-MD.

And comparing the result with another driver IC development Borad: Renesas / Dialog DA728x-EVAL-KIT.

We found that at the same Vrms output level:

- with Closed Loop function ON, the TI Driver runs at 231Hz, and produce a vibration force 2.6Grms

- with Auto tracking function ON, the Renesas / Dialog Driver runs at 246Hz, and produce a vibration force 8.7Grms

Looks like the TI Driver is not very good at finding the best resonance frequency for some LRA models.

Do you have any comment on this? Or do you have an upgraded driver IC model that can work better?

Hi Ryan,

Are you calibrating the TI device before running the test? Also are you configuring both the devices to have the same output voltage?

Hi Jeff,

I use the DRV2605LEVM-MD development board. I am assume the TI drive ICs are calibrated with the board?

If you are referring to calibrate the LRA with the TI driver IC. The calibration always failed when I run the process.

For the output, I use an oscilloscope to make sure both devices to have the same Vrms levels.

Hi Ryan,

The failed calibration would be the reason for poor performance. If you refer to section 8.5.6 in the DRV2605L datasheet, you will find the procedure for running calibration. There are various registers that need to be set according to your specific LRA. Once calibration is passed, you can then test again.

Hi Sydney,

I spend quite some times on setting the register values based on section 8.5.6.

I tried setting the default values, datasheet suggested values to the registers. However the result is always failed.

Do you have a suggested values for the registers on section 8.5.6? Or which register I should pay special attention to for various LRA's?

Hi Ryan,

These registers need to be set according to your LRA, not necessarily the defaults in the datasheet. For example, DRIVE_TIME[4:0] is set based on the resonance frequency of your LRA which is explained in section 8.5.1.1.
