DRV8714-Q1: Regarding the DVDD current of DRV8714-Q1

Part Number: DRV8714-Q1

Hello team

Please tell me something about the current consumption of DVDD.

Regarding the current consumption flowing to the DVDD pin when waking up the DRV8714-Q1,
I thought it was flowing about 10mA from the data sheet, but by waking up the DRV8714-Q1, the current consumption of the DVDD line was about 40mA.
Are there any other functions causing the DVDD current consumption to increase?

  • Hi Rui-san,

    The IDVDD current consumption can be a function of the PVCC power supply, AREF power, VDVDD, and will increase with junction temperature.

    The 10mA specified in the datasheet is only referring the DVDD current draw and not including the other power supplies that will pull current.

    Please see section 9.2.2.3 Power Dissipation for more details.

    Best,

    David

  • Hello David

    Thank you for answer.
    However, my question is still not resolved.

    According to the data sheet, I believe that PVCC refers to power, not current, so I don't think PVCC is relevant in current calculations.
    Therefore, to calculate the current flowing to DVDDpin, use the following formula.

     IDVDD+IAREF

    On the data sheet, each current is defined as follows at -40℃<TJ<150℃.

     IDVDD_MAX=13mA
     IAREF_MAX=3mA

    Therefore, I understand that the total output is only about 16mA.
    However, in my environment, a current of about 45mA flows into the DVDDpin.
    Is there a reason why the remaining power increases by about 30mA due to register settings / nouse terminal processing, etc.?

  • Hi Rui,

    If possible could you please answer the following questions to allow a better insight into this issue:

    1. Are you using the DRV8714-Q1EVM or just the DRV8714-Q1?

    2. Is the sleep mode current into DVDD also pulling excessive current?

    3. If not using the EVM, could you send a picture of the schematic?

    Best,

    David
