DRV8714-Q1: HW: gain mode setting

Hi team,

I understood that DRV8714-Q1 has feature for current limiting through external shunt resistor.

Datasheet specified 4 levels of internal amp gain mode when using HW variant.

Could you check if my understanding for gain mode setting is correct?

For resistor connected to MODE pin,

Quad-level 1: gain 10V/V (typ), direct to GND

Quad-level 2: gain 20V/V (typ), 47k Ohm to GND

Quad-level 3: gain 40V/V (typ), Hi-Z(float?) or GND through over 500k Ohm

Quad-level 4: gain 80V/V (typ), direct connection to DVDD

Hi,

Thank you for your question.

Your understand is correct. 500Kohm is min SPEC. You could pick more than 500Kohm like 550K, 600K etc. FYI.

I have one more question about current limit.

I see that DRV8714-Q1 has overcurrent detector. Does it operate through MCU?(ex. report to MCU then control IC)

Or is it that IC itself can control output current? If so, how does it operate(ex. limit, shutdown..)?

Customer is not implementing R_shunt.

Thank you for your questions.

VDS overcurrent protection works without MCU.

Could you create new pos when topic is changed from originally asked? This way we can search info later smoothly.
