MCF8315A: Getting started with MCF8315A configuration

I am looking for some tips or reference code (or ideally, a software library) to control MCF8315A through I2C.

Played a lot with the MCF8315EVM board, but I am unable to see an example how to configure the chip from power on in an actual embedded system, and how to control it after.

Any help with that will be very welcome. Thanks

Hi Konstantin,

Please refer to this FAQ on Programming our MCx BLDC motor drivers though I2C using a MSP430 launchpad. It contains a sample project/code for writing to and reading from the device registers.

Please also look to our default register configuration in section 3.1 of the MCF8315A Tuning Guide for the starting recommended register settings before changing the resister settings depending on your motors parameters.

I am now able to spin the motor from within my software, although it will still require a lot of adjustments because it currently 'kicks' at start, then increases revs more than what I need it to, and only then settles at the desired speed. That happens over a significant period of time, and I assume it is all matter of adjustments.
The topic can be closed now. I will ask separately should there be something else.
