DRV8311: Do I need to set dead time if DRV8311 has fully protected ?

Part Number: DRV8311

As DRV8311 has full protected

Do I still need to set dead time insertion settings (or leave it as 00h ) ?

  • Hi Hongbo,

If you are using the SPI variant of the DRV8311 then depending on your application requirements deadtime can be controlled to tune your system. There is always some deadtime implemented to prevent against cross conduction (whether it's just using internal MOSFET-handshaking or not),  and  other parameters of the driver rely on deadtime too (such as "delay compensation").

It should be okay keeping the settings at 0h,  but I would recommend observing your HS/LS Gate, Source, and output waveforms and tuning your system optimally, increasing or decreasing deadtime if desired/necessary.

    Best Regards,
