DRV8244-Q1: RLVL value influence

For DRV8244-Q1 HW version, there are several levels to configure mode, as capture below, here is a problem:

What if the resistance value shifts over time and exceeds the range of the level (between two levels), what state will it enter?

From my view, there are some possibilities (demo by ITRIP)：

1. It will not enter the previous mode, and enter no mode, just like disable mode, so what is the Vtrip value? And what is the difference between level of regulation disabled in table 8-10?

2. It would keep former mode although out of recommended resistance setting range.

    Thank you for posting in this forum. This is a good question "What if the resistance value shifts over time and exceeds the range of the level (between two levels), what state will it enter?".

    1. "It will not enter the previous mode, and enter no mode, just like disable mode, so what is the Vtrip value?" It may be either one of the adjacent modes mostly indeterminate. We recommend to avoid using resistors that would not drift dramatically over time. As you noted the spec itself has a wide tolerance. "And what is the difference between level of regulation disabled in table 8-10?" For RLVL1OF6 it is considered GND potential. Like mentioned in the spec table the resistance to GND must not exceed 10 ohms.

    2. "It would keep former mode although out of recommended resistance setting range.". After power cycling or wake up from sleep there is no guaranteed mode if the voltage is out of range. It will not keep former mode. 

    In summary the tolerance is pretty wide like +/- 10%. So use low drift resistors that will remain within this range for the lifetime of the application. Thanks.
