DRV8434EVM: how to indentify motor switching sequence

Part Number: DRV8434EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8434

Hello Team,

we are using DRV8434 EVM to run our stepper motor (bipolar) in full step mode. motor is rotating properly and giving required output also.

but there is one query from our customer .

in our motor spec sheet we mention below truth table of switching sequence of mosfet for step sequence. How can we verify that below switching sequence is follow or not.

or how can we check which mosfet is getting when on.

  • Hello Sayali,

The switching sequence at the output polarity level of the H-bridge is provided in the datasheet page-16. Positive 100% means AOUT1 / BOUT1 HS-FET is ON and AOUT2 / BOUT2 LS-FET is ON. Negative 100% it will be the opposite, AOUT1 / BOUT1 LS-FET is ON and AOUT2 / BOUT2 HS-FET is ON. This would be same as the table you shared in your post. I hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Hello Murugavel,

Thank you for quick response. Is it possible to check this sequence on evaluation kit .

if so what connection we need to make and where we can check.

    Regards,

    Sayali

  • Hello Sayali,

Yes it is possible to check this sequence on the EVM. You can look at the four output Voltages simultaneously with a 4-ch oscilloscope. The GUI should be set to as below and use the "Start Steps" button one press at a time to move the indexer by one step and monitor the output channels.
