DRV8353RS-EVM: DRV8353RS-EVM Connection Error

Part Number: DRV8353RS-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MOTORWARE, DRV8353, CCSTUDIO

Currently, DRV-8353RS-EVM kit is purchased and used.
Follow the guide to.

slvu791b
- Download and install the Setup_DRV8353Rx-1.0.0_EVM.zip file in accordance with paragraph 2.1
I couldn't find the installation item, so I accessed the site below and installed DRV8353RS/H-EVM Firmware (zip) by referring to other people's questions.
https://www.ti.com/tool/download/SLVC736

However, there is no DRV-8353RX EVM shortcut or GUI application after installation.

So I went to the site below and ran the online version.
dev.ti.com/.../
After applying the power, I connected the USB and checked it, and it didn't connect to the program.

An error occurs that indicates that the hardware is not connected.

So I followed the motorware guide and tried to connect in a different way.

You have installed the latest version of the motorware according to the guide.

The description says to set up the hardware, but how do I set it up?
CCS is installed.

Next, it says to install the DRV8353Rx firmware software, but it's the same as the previous one.

After that, I moved the file by referring to step 9.

Imported CCS files in accordance with paragraph 2.2.2.

And I worked on the following. I don't understand this part well. Is it right to do it like a photo file?
2. Change the drv8353 custom include path in “Project→Properties→Build→C2000
Compiler→Include Options” to the following include
"InstallDirectory":\ti\motorware\motorware_1_01_00_18\sw\modules\hal\boards\drv8353\f28x\f2802x\src

CCS was clean and build according to the following description.

There is no out file path like number 8.
Is it correct to use the route you found with the route shortcut on the CCS?
C:\ti\motorware\motorware_1_01_00_18\sw\solutions\instaspin_foc\boards\drv8353\f28x\f2802xF\projects\ccs

I would appreciate it if you could let me know if I made any mistakes or missed anything.
If you have any data in order about the method, please let me know the data.
I hope you all have a great day.

  • Hi Youngtak,

When setting up the device,  can you try restarting the program and then plugging in the USB first before powering on the external supply?  Powering on the device before connecting to the USB may be contributing to the connection issues seen.

Can you also try using a different USB port,  and cord,  to ensure there are no external factors in play.

    Best Regards,

    -Joshua

  • Thank you for your answer.

When only USB was connected, the device was not connected, so I applied external power, but it still couldn't be connected.
The error that occurs when only USB is connected is as follows.
    Restarting Program Model...
    Initializing target : C:\ti\guicomposer\eclipse\workspace\.metadata\.plugins\com.ti.binding.program\appConfig.ccxml
Connecting target: Texas Instruments XDS100v2 USB Debug Probe/C28xx
sun.org.mozilla.javascript.internal.WrappedException: Wrapped com.ti.ccstudio.scripting.environment.ScriptingException: Error connecting to the target: emulation failure occurred (<Unknown source>#14) in <Unknown source> at line number 14Restart Completed.

With external power applied, (<Unknown source>#14) changes to (<Unknown source>#18) and still does not connect.

  • Thanks for the update,  Youngtak.

Can you try the same procedure/operating the cloud GUI  on a different computer,  as there may be the possibility of an unknown out of date driver on the computer that is leading to the USB/device not being recognized.

I will continue looking into this matter and follow-up with any additional suggestions in the meantime.

    Thanks and Best Regards,

    -Joshua

  • Thank you for your answer.

The symptoms are the same on other computers.
Can we start over with the guides above?

  • Hi Youngtak,

Yes, and before trying to work the MotorWare method,  I believe it'd be best to start the process from the beginning for the EVM GUI guide setup—uninstalling GUI software from (1.0.0) and walking through the reinstallation.

But first,  can you reset the firmware on the device (push button on ISO board)  and flip the switches mentioned in Step 1: " Make sure the ISO-F28028F has Serial switch S4OFF and the Boot switch S1 configured
from left to right as ON-ON-ON" --- reset these switches before turning on the power supply to the PCB.  Open the online GUI and connect USB to laptop and observe the connection icon.

If not connected, unplug the USB from both the PCB and the Laptop and wait several seconds, then first reconnect the USB to the laptop before the PCB.

Let me know if this sequence yields any differing results.

    Best Regards,

    -Joshua

  • I deleted the GUI and reinstalled it through the link in the guide.

INSTASPINUNIVERSALGUI Software programming tool | TI.com

I also checked the location of the switch.

After that, I accessed the online GUI and ran the version 1.0.0 you mentioned.

The program will be debugged normally.

However, when you run DRV8353RS, you see the statement at the bottom that the hardware is not connected.

The result is the same when you try again after removing the USB.

  • Thanks for walking through the steps,  Youngtak.

Let me consult my team tomorrow on this update and follow right afterwards.

    Best Regards,

    -Joshua

  • Please let me know if the problem improves.
Do you have any videos on how to do it?

  • Hi Youngtak,

To reduce redundancy I am going to close this thread since this topic will be continued on this recent thread here: https://e2e.ti.com/support/motor-drivers-group/motor-drivers/f/motor-drivers-forum/1314564/drv8353rs-evm-drv8353rs-evm-motorware-connection-error

We believe C2000 team's guidance will be the best to further address and solve this issue, so please expect additional responses on that thread!

    Thank you and Best Regards,

    -Joshua
