Hi,

Comparing DRV10983 and DRV10983-Q1 I noticed that Phase-Phase inductance is specified different in the datasheet (0.7 mH DRV10983-Q1 Table 36 ; 0.07 mH DRV10983 Table 10).

We would prefer to drive a BLDC motor with Phase-Phase inductance of 0.254mH with the DRV10983-Q1, is it possible to tune it to work with lower inductance?

Hi Dan,

There are two aspects,

1. Lower L requires better PWM switching frequency, DRV10983Q1 device has 25Khz and 50KHz , based on R/L constant we can chose suitable one, but higher switching will have switching losses.

2. IPD resolution depends on the inductance.

We should be able to tune it, what is the speed range, rated current ?

I will have to verify if 0.7mH or 0.07mH what is correct by the specification.

Thanks for verifying, struck me that it might be a typo.

We use the Maxon EC-max 16 motor

Hi Dan,

From the data sheet, R/L is almost 60KHz and Max PWM DRV10983Q1 is 50KHz.

On the other hand, Resistance is also higher, we need to see low speed performance, ripple will be higher.

Do you have the motor and DRV10983Q1 with you? We need to verify not just spinning, overall performance which can be achievable.

What is your application? Are you looking for auto grade?

Have you checked MCF8316C-Q1? This is FOC based solution and support PWW frequency of 75KHz and better current control loop. Please let me know your requirement.

Thanks for the suggestion, we are tuning the parameters for DRV10983-Q1 at different temperature intervals and have improved the performance to a level that probably is acceptable.

Did you verify that the specified P-P Inductance was specified correct in DS for DRV10983-Q1?
