DRV8899-Q1: Stall detection

Hi Team,

The customer uses DRV8899-Q1 to drive a bipolar stepper motor. He plans to use 1/32 steps to control. The customer's understanding is that this chip does not have a separate stall protection function. May I ask if he implements it using stall detection and current sensing functions?

    Hi Annie,

    The integrated current sensing for the DRV8899-Q1 is available only to internal current regulation block of this device. It is not available externally for the customer to use it. Besides current sensing does not help with stall detection unlike a brushed DC motor. If the customer needs stall detection with stepper they must use the DRV8889-Q1 which is p2p device with integrated stall detection feature.
