MCT8329EVM: Display of motor status such as electrical speed

Part Number: MCT8329EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MCT8329A

I am using an MCT8329EVT with the MCT8329A_GUI, version 1.1.3.  There is a block on the right labeled MOTOR_STATUS with six items, including Algorithm State and Motor Electrical Speed.  A value for Algorithm State is displayed (e.g. MOTOR_ALIGN), but no values are displayed for the other five items, including Motor Electrical Speed, which is important to me.  I have tried with "Auto Read Motor Status" selected and deselected, and same for "Auto Read All Registers".  I never see data for those five items.  How can I get this to work?  And is there any other way to read the Motor Electrical Speed?

  • Hi Marc,

I will need to look into the displays under in the MOTOR STATUS section of the GUI. I will get back with you by Friday on this.

To read the electrical motor speed you can read the value from the MOTOR_SPEED register located in the register page under the  SYS_STATUS2 tab. If you have an oscilloscope available you can also measure the signal on the FG pin which will output pulses proportional to the motors speed.

    Regards,

  • I have been reading the speed register, which works fine, as well as looking at the FG output, which also works fine.  But it would be very useful to have the automatically updating display on the page during tuning.  Since the register value is there, it seems like it's just a programming issue with the UI webpage.  I experience this problem with both FireFox and Google Chrome.

  • Hi Marc,

It does seem like these values are not being updated correctly in the GUI due to a bug in the program. We will work to correct this issue, thank you for bringing it to our attention.

    Regards,

    Joshua
